Susan G. Komen® is conducting a research study to learn more about how to best meet the needs of MBC patients through patient navigation, and we need your help! We would like to hear the barriers MBC patients and patient navigators face so we can design a patient navigation training module to respond to these needs. See the flyer for eligibility requirements and more information.

For this study, you will be asked to participate in a 1-hour introductory call and 2-hour focus group, both on a virtual platform. The focus group conversations will be focused on the experiences of those diagnosed with MBC or the patient navigators serving MBC patients. You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • 21 years or older,
  • a U.S. citizen
  • an individual who has been diagnosed with MBC

OR a patient navigator (defined as individuals who identify and address barriers to accessing healthcare services in a fragmented healthcare system serving the breast cancer community)

If you are interested in participating, please complete the interest form found here.

Oncology Navigation Standards of Professional Practice

The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), along with other organizations of the Professional Oncology Navigation Task Force, created these standards to provide clinical oncology nurse navigators, social work navigators, and patient navigators with clear information regarding best practices in the provision of professional care.

Survivor Views: Copay Assistance and Patient Navigation

Survivor Views: Copay Assistance and Patient Navigation

Overview:

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) gives voice to cancer patients and survivors on critical public policy issues that affect their lives.  As part of this effort, ACS CAN deploys surveys to better understand cancer patient and survivor experiences and perspectives, through our Survivor Views research panel. The panel is a group of cancer patients and survivors who respond to regular surveys and provide important insights to support ACS CAN’s advocacy work at all levels of government.

Fielded May 16-26, 2022, the latest survey explores cancer patients’ and survivors’ experiences and perspectives on copay assistance, patient navigation, and digital therapeutics. The web-based survey was conducted among 1,241 patients and survivors nationwide diagnosed with or treated for cancer in the last seven years, along with oversamples of 1,370 targeted interviews (see methodological note at end). The margin of sampling error associated with a sample of this size is +/-2.8% at a 95% confidence level.

New Hampshire Colorectal Screening Program

From 2009 to 2015, the New Hampshire Colorectal Cancer Screening Program (NHCRCSP) carried out a
statewide effort to increase high-quality colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. This effort included:
   – Free colonoscopy screening for low-income, uninsured or
underinsured state residents ages 50 through 64
  –  Connecting patients without a primary care provider to
medical homes for comprehensive and continuous care
  –  Healthcare center partnerships to increase their use of
evidence-based screening interventions
  –  A patient navigation (PN) intervention that was remarkably
effective in increasing colonoscopy completion, based on
results of a rigorous evaluation study led by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with
NHCRCSP staff.

Guide for Patient Navigators

The George Washington University Cancer Center is excited to share our updated Guide for Patient Navigators! This guide is a supplement to our Oncology Patient Navigator Training: The Fundamentals. The 508 compliant guide also provides free updated resources and tools for program implementation.
